Here is a link to a post on Magic: The Gathering.com about some changes to the game as of the fall. It is a pretty straight forward article so I’ll just link to it now and compose my thoughts in a future post.

And here is a link to the announcement of Shards of Alara

Ok, I am a little bit mad about all the fat pack changes. I am a big fat pack person because I like the other product that was included with fat packs besides boosters. I dunno if y’all noticed or not, but the older fat packs came with less cards but had the ultra cool dividers and an extra box. With Shadowmoor, there is one less box, no dividers, 2 more boosters and with Shards they are eliminating the novel for an excerpt of a publishing. How lame is that? What next? Are they gonna get ride of the life counter too?

Sarah, I agree. While I’m not a fan of the books I did enjoy the extra stuff that came with the Fat Pack. I didn’t know they decreased the box to one. I’m in favor of more cards because I think the cost of the fat pack is a little high. Maybe if you got a special foil card or something that made them special it would work better.

I have some other thoughts on the changes in a more recent post here: https://casualmagic.wordpress.com/2008/06/26/shards-of-alara-changes-2/.

Actually – the main reason I bought the fat pack was the nice combo of box, boosters and novel. I did like the deviders, too, but don’t mind them to be removed in favour of more cards.

Now with the novel gone I will not buy a fat pack any more. Bad move, WOTC!
