Affinity – Not Quite September 22, 2008

We all know everyone has had affinity on their minds since the first artifact creature was spoiled in Shards of Alara. Mark Rosewater spoils Etherium Sculptor in his article today. He also dismisses any thoughts of affinity like goodness in Shards. They might as well have named this card Etherium Banneret. I’m glad this is a common because everyone is going to need four of these for the future.

Since I’ve never really played extended and came into Magic for the first time during Ravnica I’ve never really had to deal with affinity. I don’t expect that there will be a deck that allow you to play most of your cards for free. Heck I’m not even sure Shards Decks will be harder, better, faster, stronger than Lorwyn/Shadowmoor tribal. What I do expect is that the decks will be Lorwyn/Shadowmoor decks on steroids. After all that is what most of the Shards cards feeling like.

If you want a more indepth thought on the spoilers check out Evan Erwin’s Magic Show.

Esper is the best Shard until now… Anyone knows what’s Naya shard ability?… I mean Jund/Devour, Bant/Exalted, Grixis/Unearth, Esper/Color Artifacts… but Naya?… May be something awesome is coming!

Esper is going to make my Fracturing Gust so much more potent, I wont even have to play Enchanted Evening anymore before hand. I don’t know if this counts as a semi-artifact block, but they better watch out because artifacts have a way of becoming broken, fast.
