I was just trolling around Magic the Gathering.com and I found this video previewing Duels of the Planeswalkers. I’ve got to say it looks pretty awesome. I’ve got access to an XBox360 now and I’m really stoked about this game. Hopefully a MTGO killer. The game play looks great and you’ll just have to see for yourself. I’m practically drooling.

It looks like an updated version of Shandalar… which was one of the most amazing games ever. I will be downloading it to my 360 the day it comes out and will likely buy any PC version they create.

Nice game but I like to sit around a table with my friends and play. I feel that the social aspect of gaming has been lost over the years. I was playing d&d, battletech, etc… back in high school and the best part was just hanging out with my friends.

I agree. Sitting around a table with people you know cannot be replaced by any virtual environment. However, I’m in a situation were my friends are hard to schedule and there are many evenings where I’d like to play some magic but don’t have an opponent. I haven’t committed money to MTGO and this game seems like a good alternative.

One criticism I’ve heard is that this game is totally made of precons. There is no deck building you just select a premade deck and go. I heard that this is because it would be easier on the programing. I don’t know if this is true or not since this programing should already exist with MTGO, we’ll see.

Actually, from what I’ve heard, you start with a precon then unlock cards in the campaign mode. This sounded almost exactly like Shandalar where you would play with the old ante rules and defeat wandering monsters and get cards from their deck and sell them to buy better cards.

Yeah I know getting everyone together can be a hassle. Whatever happened to the high school days. We didn’t sing and dance like a bunch of idiots. We played D&D!!!!
