If you had a chance to check out Magicthegathering.com’s Arcana today you would see a little announcement: Duel Decks: Divine vs Demonic

So obviously this will be an angel vs demons matchup. I thought for sure Wizards was going go through all the planeswalkers in a series. Maybe they are going to go for creature themes and planeswalkers in alternating sets.

The decks will feature new artwork on a few cards included some mythic rares. I’m going to guess that we are looking at new art for Empyrial Archangel and either Sedris, the Traitor King or Prince of Thralls, but most likely Sedris. Here is the new demon artwork.

Here is the official release info:

An endless war rages in the heavens.

The skies blacken and crackle with dark magic. Bellows of grim laughter drown out the beating of black, leathery wings. The demons have come.

Then, a ray of golden light pierces the darkness. A flight of angels arrives, swords gleaming. The champions of law have arrived to cleanse the sky.

In April, you will wage this eternal battle between good and evil. Which celestial force will prevail?

Duel Decks: Divine vs Demonic contains two ready-to-play 60-card decks that showcase some of the best spells the forces of light and darkness have to offer. The set includes 7 cards that feature new artwork, including two alternate art foil mythic rare cards.

Deck Design and Development: Nate Heiss and Erik Lauer
Release Date: April 10th, 2009
MSRP: $19.99

I love that release icon. Really great design. High five and free fake playset of foil Sharkan Vol to the designer who made it.

Actually, I think it’s much more likely that they will be bumping old rares up to Mythic rarity like they did with Jace and Chandra. The Angel one will almost certainly be Akroma while Kuro, Pitlord looks like the closest for Demons.

2. elgoff - December 23, 2008

I’ll second Duncan on that thought…

3. Lunashine - January 7, 2009

I agree about akroma, but I really cant see kuro in it. What use would he have? targeting an black-protected akroma? but hey, it could be possible, the didnt give a damn about balancing in jace vs chandra either…
